Obituary: Oneal "Mickey" Cyr, 86

Mr. Cyr is remembered as a great family man. He leaves family in Naugatuck.

Mr. Oneal Cyr, "Mickey," 86, of Waterbury joined his beloved wife on Friday, April 19, 2013, at his home unexpectedly. He became the widow to Josephine on March 23, 2013 after 65 years. 

Mr. Cyr was born July 31, 1926 in St. Francis, Maine to the late Adolphe and Marie (Morin) Cyr. He retired from Scovill Manufacturing as a power house engineer at the age of 62. Oneal was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church of Waterbury and a Mason at the Harmony Lodge 42 in Waterbury. He loved to go to the Rodeo as he was a cowboy at heart. Also, he loved to be handy and fixed almost anything that broke. Oneal had a passion for hunting with his boys in Maine and while alongside of his wife, he loved the Cyr “Lobster fest” they held for 22 years. He and Giusseppa had a love that many hoped to experience in life. 

Oneal is survived by his daughters, Karen and James Doran, Maureen and Jose DosSantos, Debbie and Gary Grappone all of Waterbury, his sons, Dennis and Joyce Cyr of Waterbury, Joseph and Sally Cyr of Naugatuck, Richard and Barbara Cyr of Berlin, Michael and Angela Cyr of Waterbury, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Donna Jean as well as his brothers and sisters. 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 22, from 5-8 p.m. with a Mason service held at 7 p.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterbury. To travel in procession, please arrive at the funeral home between 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.
