Community Corner

Every two years, we as citizens are given an opportunity to exercise our voting rights. This upcoming election on November 5, 2013, is more crucial than ever. We, as residents, need to think about the direction that Naugatuck has been heading, and whether we can continue down this same road. Can we financially endure another tax increase? It is time that we have our voices heard.
Why have we become so complacent? Why have we continued to settle for the status quo? There are those in our community that are financially stable, but we need to take into consideration our fellow citizens who are not. What about the elderly on a fixed income? What about the single parent working two jobs just to put food on the table? These are citizens who struggle in their daily lives, but are responsible to pay their tax obligations. It is heartbreaking to hear from many elderly citizens who have told me that they need to sell their vehicles in order to pay their taxes. Many residents have told me that they can no longer afford to live in Naugatuck and are seriously considering moving elsewhere. People are beyond frustrated.

I have taken in to consideration what this office needs to run more efficiently and what will ease the burden for us all. I have been working very diligently to meet and speak to as many households as possible and to listen to their concerns. The citizens are frustrated over increasing taxes, little to zero return on their tax dollar and their town officials who did not vote in the referendum process to ensure that the voter turnout requirement would not be met.
I would appreciate your vote on November 5th. Thank-you
