Burglars Striking Long Hill, Canoe Brook Lake, Tashua

Police are stepping up patrols, First Selectman Tim Herbst said Jan. 25. Police would not release further details of the burglaries because they are under investigation.

Since Jan. 1, burglars have struck 8 times, primarily on the west side of Town, stretching throughout the Long Hill section and into parts of Tashua, First Selectman Tim Herbst said Friday evening.

"A short time ago, I conferred with Police Chief Thomas Kiely to review our action plan. Trumbull police will be aggressively stepping up patrols throughout Town, including main roads and residential neighborhoods. Police will be in marked and unmarked vehicles," Herbst said in a statement on the town Website Friday night.

"I am asking the people of Trumbull for assistance in helping us prevent burglaries," he added.

Herbst asked specifically:

  • If you see a suspicious vehicle or suspicious activity at the home of a neighbor or anywhere in your neighborhood, you should call 9-1-1- immediately and alert police.
  • Within your own home, you should take necessary security precautions. You should lock all windows and doors and also safely guard and secure valuables in your home.
  • If your car is parked outside, you should make sure you lock your car at all times. When you leave your home, if you have an alarm system, you should turn it on at all times.
  • If you have any tips regarding any burglaries, you can contact our Detective Bureau at (203) 261-3665 or text us at CRIMESTRPD and include your message. All calls and texts will be kept confidential.

thanks Aaron. I appreciate you passing it along to the residents of Trumbull. Maybe you should have also added in the article that the TPD will not release any details instead of leaving us hanging (in a sense). From our standpoint we don't know whether the lack of details stems from the editor or police. My next question for anyone that can provide valuable insight: Why hasn't the TPD released any details? If it was someone getting pulled over for drunk driving, a bar fight, domestic dispute or other embarrassing arrest we would have their whole life story revealed in detail so everyone can spread the news around town.

looks like the article has now been updated to reflect the points i made above in the comments. I'd just like that to be known before someone else chimes in here and accuses me of not reading before I post.

Tom Kelly has a clearly unhealthy obsession with our first selectman. Its scary.

I believe our town would be better served with another leader, but I am polite and respectful in everything I say, and I will not be discouraged from commenting on town politics because anonymous posters try to cast me in a negative light. I give my best to my town every single day.

Oh my god, there's been eight whole burglaries in town! Was anyone hurt? Did they break in when people were home? That does it, I'm getting two AR-15's, one each for my wife and I! I'll riddle anyone that comes near my door and ask questions later! Obviously no one has been hurt or we'd have heard about it. Check the absentee list at the high school on the days of the burglaries for a pattern.
