City Man Caught Stealing from Unlocked Cars Friday

Burglary suspect found walking near scene of several thefts from cars.

Police responded to reports of a man entering unlocked cars in the area of Pleasant Ave. early Friday morning and found the suspected thief nearby.

Naugatuck police received calls about a man who appeared to be taking money and valuables from parked cars around 3 a.m. on April 18.

While searching the area, officers found 32-year-old Adam Erdely, of Olive Street, Naugatuck, walking nearby and determined that he had allegedly stolen money and other items from unlocked vehicles.

A Naugatuck Patch reader posted about the break-ins this weekend, warning neighbors to lock their cars and secure their valuables.

Erdely was arrested on charges of larceny in the sixth degree. He was released on $1,000 bond with a court date set for April 30.

Not much exposure (jail time) hanging over the junkie's head with only two larceny 6th charges. Bond amount seems appropriate.

Felony record, and multiple convictions. I'll take Chuck's prescription for this junkie all day long.

Didn't see it at first glance, thanks. In one case alone, burglary 3, larceny 3 and 4, AND violation of probation in 2008 and he STILL avoided jail.....gotta love the system...

Nine million chances and this devil is found staggering around Pleasant Street at 3am pilfering quarters from peoples ash trays??? Please....can't we just kill these career losers? Line them up and pump lead into them. Enough already!! He'll meander through the system for a few months (stealing the whole time) and eventually get probation again. What a circus. Terminate these hopeless asses and bury them six feet under.

I just happened to look outside and saw him walking away from our driveway. Once I saw him open the neighbors car, I phone him in. He then proceeded to try to open every vehicle all the way up the hill. They got him on his return down the hill in front of my house. He took lifesavers and a iPod cable from us. He did have a large folding knife on his possession as well.
