Dog Left in Car Dies; Owner Charged With Animal Cruelty

Woodbridge Police say the Waterbury woman left the dog in her car for about an hour during the ongoing heat wave.

The owner of a 14-month-old Yorkie-Chihuahua mix has been arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after the dog was found dead in her car.

According to a report just released by Woodbridge Police, the incident took place at 4 p.m. on July 17, as the region continues to grapple with an ongoing heat wave.

The dog was found in a car parked on Lunar Drive in Woodbridge, with the windows rolled up, police said.

The owner of the vehicle, Tiffany July-Lindo, 24, of Waterbury, reportedly went inside a business at the location to work. "When the owner returned to the vehicle approximately one hour later she found the deceased dog," the report states. "At the time of the incident, the weather was sunny and approximately 90 degrees."

July-Lindo was charged with one count of cruelty to animals. She is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on July 26.
