Driver Strikes Pedestrian, Flees Scene

The victim was left laying in a downtown Naugatuck street.

A man was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross a downtown street Friday night and the driver fled the scene.

The incident happened at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Water and Maple streets. The man suffered a compound leg fracture as a result of the collision. He was laying on the sidewalk when a passerby noticed him and called police.

The vehicle was described by witnesses as a new model white or silver sedan. Police have been given a partial registration plate of “89 XYZ” for the car.
