Fully Restored Classic Car Damaged by Fire

Thunderbird sustains serious damage in Oxford incident.

OXFORD -- A fully renovated 1963 Ford Thunderbird was seriously damaged by fire Saturday when the car backfired through the carburetor.

The car caught on fire in a driveway at 204 Park Road when the owner tried to start the engine to run off some bad gas. The owner saw smoke, opened the hood and flames shot out from underneath, Fire Chief Scott Pelletier said.

Oxford firefighters put out the flames. Nobody was injured, but the car sustained significant fire and smoke damage.
