Greenwich Man Charged with Assault, Strangulation in Domestic Dispute

Man allegedly strangled his girlfriend and threatened her with a knife in Naugatuck.

Naugatuck police were called to a home on Lincoln Street Friday evening for reports of a domestic disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

According to police, Israel Zapata-Guerrero, 21, of Grand Street, Greenwich, grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, strangling her, and threatened her with a knife. Later, he allegedly stabbed the mattress and threw the knife at the wall, causing damage.

Zapata-Guerrero was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree, threatening in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, strangulation in the first degree, criminal mischief in the second and unlawful restraint in the first.

He was held on $100,000 pending arraignment Tuesday in Waterbury Superior Court.
