Naugatuck High School Evacuated After Fire Alarm is Activated

There is no cause for alarm and all students are safe.

Naugatuck High School was evacuated just after 10 a.m. Friday after a fire alarm accidentally went off during an ongoing construction project.

A new fire sprinkler system is currently being installed. As it was being filled with water, the system sensed the water pressure dropping and activated the fire alarm.

“There is a flow switch that measures water dropping,” Fire Chief Ken Hanks said. “When the valve starts moving, it trips the alarm. It’s not that uncommon of an occurrence.”

There were a few fire alarm issues over the summer, but nothing major, Hanks said.

Naugatuck is in the process of completing a $81 million renovate-to-new project at the high school.
