Naugatuck Man Involved in Campaign Donation Scheme to be Sentenced Today

Man faces up to 30 months in federal prison.

A Naugatuck man who was involved in a scandal to funnel illegal campaign contributions into a former Connecticut House Speaker Chris Donovan's congressional campaign will be sentenced to federal prison today in New Haven.

Harry 'Ray' Soucy, 61, faces between two years to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty last year to wire fraud and conspiracy charges. He was one of eight people convicted in the case.

The Associated Press reports that nearly $28,000 in campaign straw donations were funneled to try to get Donovan to knock down proposed state legislation to raise taxes on roll-your-own cigarette shops. In the end, the bill was approved and Donovan did not win his congressional campaign. Donovan was not charged with a crime.
