Naugatuck Man Killed in New Haven Accident

Brian McCarthy was riding his motorcycle in the city when he was reportedly struck by a car.

A 34-year-old Naugatuck man was killed Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving was reportedly hit by a car.

The man, Brian McCarthy of Naugatuck, worked for the state and was the father of three children, according to a report by the New Haven Independent. He had also worked as an EMT for Campion Ambulance Service.

New Haven Police said McCarthy was driving on Fountain Street in New Haven when he was struck by a car being driven by an elderly woman, as she attempted to turn onto Seneca Road.

McCarthy died at about 7 p.m. at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said — four hours after the accident. Information about the elderly woman's condition was not immediately available.

No charges have been filed and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

"These investigations can take quite some time," New Haven Police Spokesman David Hartman told Patch.
