Naugatuck Police Nab Driver in Middlebury Hit-and-Run

Naugatuck man arrested after allegedly driving off the road, causing property damage and fleeing the scene.

Middlebury police were called to Whittemore Road near Yale Ave. for reports of a car running off the road and causing property damage just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, however the driver had fled the scene before officers arrived.

Naugatuck police located the 1995 Mercury Sable and the driver, 54-year-old David Monahan, driving near his home on Pleasant Ave. in Naugatuck a short time later.

Naugatuck police charged Monahan with operating under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both, and turned him over to Middlebury.

Middlebury police arrested Monahan for evading responsibility and failure to drive right after an investigation determined he was involved in the accident. He was released on a written promise to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 17.
