Police Blotter: Woman Smashed Bottle on Man's Head

In another alleged crime, a man is accused of jumping on a woman's car.

Naugatuck police have arrested three people whom they say were involved in a fight at the Polish American Club in Naugatuck on Oct. 12.

Catherine Sawchak, 38, of 2 Harvest Lane, Naugatuck, was charged with the most serious crime of all three people – second-degree assault – because police say she smashed a beer bottle over someone’s head, causing several small lacerations to his head, during an altercation over a billiards game. She was also charged with breach of peace.

John Laverty III, 43, also of 2 Harvest Lane, Naugatuck, was charged with breach of peace for his involvement in the crime, as was Lawrence Duby, 44, of 55 Warner Ave. in the Oakville section of Watertown.

A juvenile at Naugatuck High School was charged Nov. 5 with use of drug paraphernalia after being founding possession of a marijuana smoking pipe on school grounds. She was released to her father.

Michael Wrigley, 25, of 187 Wolcott St., Waterbury, was charged with disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a child after police ay he approached his former girlfriend - who was parked at a stop light near the Big Y parking lot on Bridge Street -  jumped on the trunk of her car and punched at the windows. The victim’s daughter was seated in the back seat of the car during the incident, police say. Nobody was injured during the incident.

A man whom police say passed a car on his motorcycle while driving at a high rate of speed on Saturday was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

David Behlman, 21, of 74 Hillview St., Naugatuck, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, failure to drive in the proper lane and passing in a no passing zone. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and given a court date of Nov. 21.
