Poilice responded to a robber attempt at the Citgo gas station located at 800 New Haven Road, across from McDonald's in the shopping plaza, in Naugatuck on Tuesday night.
The Naugatuck Police Department received a 911 call at 7:52 p.m. from a clerk who said that white man, approximately 50 years old, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans had displayed a knife and attempted to rob the store, police said. The man then ran from the store toward the center of Naugatuck and the clerk lost sight of him, poice said.
Naugatuck officers responded and a police canine tracked the man to the Naugatuck Motor Lodge, a short distance from the gas station, before losing track of him, police said.
No cash or items were reported stolen and nobody was injured during the incident, police said. No further suspect or witness information was released.
Naugatuck officers and detectives were actively investigating as of Wednesday morning.
The Republican-American reported this morning that a Citgo gas station had also been robbed last night around the same time. It was unclear whether the two incidents were related.
