Area police conducted a drug sweep of 11 houses on Friday, according to the Valley Independent Sentinel

Police in several area towns in the Naugatuck Valley raided 11 houses as part of a narcotics investigation that is reportedly connected to a May 12 shooting of a man in Derby, the Valley Independent Sentinel reported Friday.

The police chief in Ansonia, Kevin Hale, told the news website the goal was also to halt some street level violence that has been seen “throughout the Valley.”

Hale told the Valley Indy a Waterbury man who was shot in killed in Derby, 22-year-old Javon Zimmerman, was one of the original targets in the drug raid effort, predating his murder.

The raids happened in Derby, Ansonia, Hamden, Seymour and Waterbury.

Ansonia police are expecting to hold a press conference on this at 1 p.m.

Check the Valley Independent Sentinel for the whole story and coverage on the press conference.
