Police Recover Stolen Tools

Possible connection to string of tool thefts in multiple area towns, including Naugatuck.

As part of an ongoing investigation, Middlebury police executed a search warrant Wednesday and recovered tools that may have been stolen from construction sites and parked vans. Some of the thefts may have occurred in Naugatuck, police say.

Some of the tools had names on them and those owners were contacted by Middlebury police, acting Chief Richard Wildman said Wednesday. According to Wildman, one of the contractors contacted was not even aware his expensive electronic laser level had been stolen.

Officers have also identified possible connections to thefts in Litchfield, Naugatuck, Prospect and Watertown and have contacted those police departments to follow up. Middlebury police also sent out a teletype to all state police agencies seeking any further connections.

No arrests have been made yet in the case, as the investigation is ongoing, Wildman said, however charges are pending.

Middlebury police are asking anyone with tools stolen in the past three weeks to call the department that is investigating the case or contact Middlebury police directly at 203-577-4028.
