Police: Teenage Girls Steal Cars, Crash One

The girls were found running away from a crash on Route 8.

Two area juveniles have been arrested after police say they stole two cars and crashed one on Route 8, police said.

The teenagers from Naugatuck and Waterbury, whose names were not released because of their ages, were seen running from an accident on Route 8 at 12:14 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, police said. During the investigation, police learned that the girls were driving a car that was stolen from Naugatuck.

Police later discovered that the girls were involved in another motor vehicle theft from the same address. That vehicle was located in Waterbury.

The girl from Waterbury was charged with second-degree criminal trover: damage to a motor vehicle, third-degree larceny and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The girl from Naugatuck was charged with conspiracy at third-degree larceny. They were both released to their parents and will be arraigned July 23 at Waterbury Superior Court.
