Shotgun Fired in Naugatuck Cruiser Damages Car, Police Station

Gun went off outside police headquarters. Luckily, no one was injured.

An officer's shotgun went off while it was being removed from a cruiser at department headquarters Saturday, damaging the roof of the vehicle and the sally port it was parked under.

Naugatuck Police Administrative Lt. Bryan Cammarata said the weapon was accidentally discharged while being taken out of the vehicle for routine maintenance.

“No one was injured during the incident," Cammarata said. "However the cruiser and the sally port roof were both damaged by the discharged round."

The incident is still under investigation and a full report from the department is pending.
