Buyer Interested in Prospect Street School

A company that works with people who have special needs is interested in purchasing the Naugatuck building.

A company that serves the needs of those with cognitive disorders, mental illness and autism is interested in purchasing the now-shuttered Prospect Street School building at 100 Prospect St. 

ICES, Inc., a for-profit company that would pay taxes to the borough, has offered to pay $800,000 for the building, for which the original asking price was $900,000. The borough owns the building. 

The Board of Mayor and Burgesses unanimously agreed to refer the sale to the Planning Commission, which must approve a change of us per law. Part of the ICES agreement with the borough would be that nobody could live at the former, 41,000-square-foot school. 

ICES currently operates in a facility on Elm Street in Naugatuck. The company plans to keep that facility open for at least a couple of years, Naugatuck officials said.
