Campaign Notebook: Gov. Malloy Tells Murphy to Fight Back

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has some advice for fellow Democrat Chris Murphy: fight back. CTNewsJunkie.com reports that Malloy offered up his thoughts at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Hartford.

Polls show the Senate race at a stastical dead heat despite Connecticut’s preference for Democrats. Linda McMahon has been outspending Murphy with her personal wealth.

Malloy reportedly said that, “sooner or later people have to talk about policies.”

Third District

Social media popularity doesn’t exactly translate into votes come Election Day, but incumbent Rosa DeLauro has 3,139 Facebook “likes” compared to Wayne Winsley’s 406. DeLauro’s page is more than four years older than her challenger’s. On Twitter, Winsley has 456 followers compared to DeLauro’s 5,749.

What's happening in other districts?

Fourth District

While Jim Himes was awarded by the Concord Coalition for supporting a failed bipartisan budget that would have reduced the federal deficit, Steve Obsitnik questioned Himes’ fiscal credentials.

“The notion that Congressman Himes has made any effort to reduce the federal deficit is as far from the truth as it could possibly be,” said Amanda Bergen, spokesperson for the Obsitnik campaign. “He has voted to spend more and more of the taxpayers’ money at nearly every opportunity.”

Some of the examples cited included Himes’ support of the $789 billion stimulus plan and the Affordable Health Care Act (also known as Obamacare).

The Concord Coalition, which is dedicated to reducting the national deficit, spoke highly of Himes and 37 other politicians.

“We are honoring Republican and Democratic House members who this year put the national interest above political partisanship,” said Robert Bixby, Concord’s executive director, in a statement. “Instead of pursuing narrow agendas, they put everything on the table, made tough choices, and called for shared sacrifice."

Fifth District

Andrew Roraback’s campaign is asking local TV stations to pull “false” ads paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He is also threatening legal action and asking Elizabeth Esty to denounce the ad, reports Patch.

The letter from Roraback’s campaign said: “Without a doubt, the Advertisement contains false information deliberately intended to mislead Connecticut voters and defame Roraback’s reputation. Because the Advertisement conveys messages that are plainly disproven by fact, we respectfully demand that your station immediately stop airing the Advertisement and that no further airings of this misleading content be allowed on your station.”

In announcing the release of the ad, the DCCC said, "The ad highlights that Roraback is running on the ticket with the Republican plan to end Medicare and force Connecticut seniors to pay $6,400 more every year to fund tax breaks for millionaires."

Rosa DeLauro, in 22 years, has gotten 3,139 people to like her = 142 per year. Wayne Winsley, in one year, has gotten 406 people to like him. This would be c. 9,000 people in 22 years, or c. 3 times more than DeLauro. Not surprising—since Wayne Winsley is at least 3 times more "likeable" than DeLauro.

Wayne Winsley has stated publicly that, because the President can serve no more than 8 years, a member of the House likewise should serve no more than 8 years—and when elected he himself will serve no more than 8 years: a “self-imposed term-limit”. (And I personally intend to remind him of that when those 8 years are nearing an end. In the meantime, I expect him to provide a level of integrity that DeLauro has NEVER shown.)

80 percent of Facebook Likes are fakes generated by advertising drones. Probably 95 percent of DeLauro supporters are fakes, based on the shallow depth of knowledge voters have of their incumbents. If voters knew how Rosa's legislation and acitvities on the Agriculture subcommittee have led to bloody revolutions and terrorism across North Africa and the middle east, as well as coddling and protecting lethal, cancer-pushing GMO corporations like Monstanto, they might decide Rosa is one of the most dangerous people ever to sit in the U.S. House of Representatives and throw her out!
