Campaign Notebook: Murphy, McMahon Debate Through Ads

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Linda McMahon and Chris Murphy won’t be debating until next month, so in the meantime a battle on the airwaves will have to suffice. Murphy’s campaign released a TV ad that paints McMahon as a selfish CEO who laid off workers at the WWE.

Meanwhile, McMahon released a new radio ad saying that Murphy, “isn’t reaching across the aisle — or looking out for Connecticut jobs.”

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D) is working to get President Barack Obama reelected. She’s a member of the Catholics for President Obama Committee.

“As a committed Catholic, I am supporting the President because I believe this is a critical moment for the middle class, and in order to keep moving America forward, we must have a President who leads with the values we share,” DeLauro wrote on Facebook.

Wayne Winsley (R): A supporter penned a theme song for Winsley’s campaign. The song, titled “Win With Winsley” by Tom Callinan, can be heard on YouTube.

Rosa DeLauro: “As a committed Catholic, I am supporting the President because…we must have a President who leads with the values we share”. There is a curious irony—if not blatant dishonesty—in DeLauro’s statement. She has been chastised repeatedly by Catholic bishops for voting consistently against Catholic moral/ethical issues. If she is pro-choice or if she is in favor of government interference in the practices of Catholic institutions, so be it. Be she needs to stop prefacing her statements with “As a committed Catholic”. Because she isn’t.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue: “Rep. DeLauro is the enemy of the poor, thus she has no moral leg to stand on. She has worked to kill school vouchers for children with disabilities and has voted against scholarship grants for African American students in D.C. But she is a big champion of abortion—including abortions where the baby is 80 percent born. She has even voted to fund abortion with federal dollars.” She has even gone so far as to criticize the Pope’s stand on abortion! “Committed Catholic”??? http://orange.patch.com/blog_posts/delauro-standing-on-the-backs-of-the-poor

In an April interview with Christian Post, DeLauro stated: “Our faith… informs and strengthens that belief in social justice and a sense of moral obligation…… You can't just pick and choose where you want to make your voice heard… We don't learn our values from the [Catholic religious] institution. We learn it through the culture of our homes and in the religion of our family.” Yet DeLauro DOES “pick and choose” in terms of Catholic teaching. Indeed, when one studies her voting record of the past 22 years, the “religion of her family” can only be characterized as a form of secular humanism combined with situational ethics—both of which are utterly antithetical to Catholicism. And when one takes a closer look at the crony political deals that have made her a multi-millionaire, it would seem apparent that self-enrichment is an important tenet of her particular “family religion”: http://easthaven.patch.com/blog_posts/the-delauro-factor-e5065dcd Everyone is entitled to their beliefs—but not everyone is entitled to call themselves a “committed Catholic” while actually having such a self-designation mean anything.

I wholeheartedly agree with Eric. I am thinking of taking my account to a different bank in protest.Read More (NAUGATUCK Savings & Loan perhaps) May sound silly to some, but in my opinion, changing the name of such an historic institution to me is blasphemous, not to mention sounding stupid. ION indeed!
