Campaign Notebook: Murphy, McMahon Spar on Jobs

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Labor Day is a prime opportunity to debate the economy, and both Linda McMahon and Chris Murphy brought up the issue of jobs.

Murphy’s campaign asked McMahon these two questions via a press release.

1. How can McMahon pretend to honor American workers after firing 10% of her employees and then turning around and taking $10 million in state tax credits designed to create jobs?

2. How can McMahon pretend to honor American workers after denying health care benefits to her employees and their families?

McMahon’s campaign said that even though Labor Day has come and gone, Murphy still has no jobs plan.

“It’s staggering that Chris Murphy continues to tour the state of Connecticut and look voters in the eye without any plan to reverse the state’s unemployment problem,” McMahon campaign manager Corry Bliss said in a press release. “When it comes to his ‘work in progress’ jobs plan, it’s time for Chri sMurphy to stop talking and start doing.”

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D): Democrats throughout the country are convening at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina. Rosa DeLauro planned to speak on the stage on Tuesday night.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at the Democratic National Convention alongside my outstanding colleagues – the House Democratic Women,” she said in an email to supporters. “Working together, we'll re-elect our President and candidates across our country that share our values. The stakes are too high in this election for any American to sit on the sidelines.”

Wayne Winsley (R): A YouTube user posted a pair of videos of Winsley talking to voters on the campaign trail.
