Mezzo Takes Issue With 'Hyper-Partisan' Campaign Rhetoric

The mayor says "some candidates will tell voters exactly what they want to hear."

In a blog post titled “The Party of Politcs,” Mayor Bob Mezzo responds to Republican politicians whom he says are simply telling voters what they want to hear but not telling the truth, or at least the entire truth.

Here are snippets from the post, which can be read in its entirety here on Mezzo’s blog:

“Inevitably, some candidates will tell voters exactly what they want to hear.  I refer to this as the “street test;” which is when a candidate for office advocates for a position that would sound good to the average person they meet on the street. The problem with most such positions, however, is that they lack any detail or context and do not include a realistic plan that could solve a problem.  A faction of the local Republican party has already started down that path.”

Later in the blog, he states:

“Inherently our democracy is strengthened when public officials offer reasonable solutions rather than radical positions, and find common ground to enact real change.”
