Naugatuck Fifth Most Distressed Community in Connecticut

Property values have declined by 26 percent in Naugatuck.

Naugatuck residents: Do you find yourself distressed financially?

That is what the state Department of Economic and Community Development concludes in its statewide report for 2013. 

Mayor Robert Mezzo told the Waterbury Republican-American that part of the low-ranking may be as a result of property values declining 26 percent during the economic recession.

Reporter Paul Singley states that the news is not all bad as the designation means Naugatuck can more easily access state funds for open space, economic development, transportation, and social services programs.
