Naugatuck Plans to Demolish Downtown Building for $98,000

State approval is needed before demolition can commence.

Sometimes progress requires patience and that appears to be what is happening in Nauguatck.
The Borough has committed $98,000 to demolish Building 25, which is the former office complex for the U.S. Rubber Co. and it has been empty for three decades, the Waterbury Republican-American reports.
Several attempts have been made to save the building but in the end it was impossible.
Borough officials hoped the property could be demolished this month, but because its on the National Registry of Historic Places it requires state approval, which could take some time, the Republican-American reports.
Developers are only interested in redeveloping the property, which is adjacent to Town Hall, if its demolished.
