Naugatuck to Kick off Holidays With Tree Lighting, Contest

Tree lighting begins at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. in the downtown, and the annual Festival of Trees will also be on.

Christmas is almost upon us, and Naugatuck will be kicking off its holiday festivities on Monday.

But apart from the annual tree lighting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 on the , and the United Way’s even at the , there is also a new event happening in the borough. A decorating contest.

The Naugatuck Park Commission is sponsoring a business decorating contest inviting downtown merchants to participating by decorating their business’ front windows. Fliers will be handed out at the treel lighting, listing the businsesses that are participating in the contest.

Residents who attend the tree lighting will judge the windows and businesses. The results will be sent to the local newspapers along with pictures of the winners receiving their awards, said Kim Eyre, of the Public Works Department.

The Park Commission, in conjunction with Dolly Lengyl of Personal Pampering of Church Strett, is also trying to raise money to purchase grooming kits for our recently deployed National Guard Medical Unit. The Commissioners are asking downtown businesses to contribute $15 per kit, Eyre said.
