Parents will be spending nearly $700 on back-to-school items for their children, according to a new survey. In 2011, according to the National Retail Foundations, parents spent only $603.63.
Clothing makes up most of the spending, but electronics are becoming increasingly popular in back-to-school shopping. Parents surveyed say they will spend $217.88 on electronics this year and six in 10 parents say they will invest in an electronic device. Last year, only 51.9 percent made that claim.
