Naugatuck Board of Ed. Honors Several Students

Athletes, artists, peer mediators acknowledged for their positive impact on the school system.

Naugatuck Board of Education meetings are generally pretty mundane affairs. Policies are discussed, budget updates are delivered and the superintendent updates the board and the public on the status of the district.

One of the most pleasant parts of the meetings is when the board decides to honor students for something positive they have accomplished. This past week, the board honored several students from accomplishments ranging from those who crafted the best poster during school bus safety week to those who won Naugatuck Valley League championships in their respective sports.

The library at City Hill Middle School was packed with giddy students and proud parents, who were thrilled to see the school board recognize the hard work of their children.

The board honored the City Hill Middle School girls' soccer team, which won an NVL title in its first year of existence; the Naugatuck High School boys' soccer team, which had an undefeated regular season and won the NVL title before being eliminated from the state tournament; the winners of the Student Transportation of America bus company's annual bus safety poster contest; and peer mediators at City Hill Middle School who work to foster a positive school climate within their building by being a place where students can turn when they are having trouble with peers.

The accolades were nice to see, and we took as many photos as we could in tight quarters. Congrats students!
