Custodian Stuck in NHS Elevator After Malfunction

Security got man out after a few minutes.

An elevator at Naugatuck High School malfunctioned Wednesday morning leaving a custodian stuck inside for a short period of time.

By the time the Naugatuck Fire Department responded to the 10 a.m. call, the high school’s security staff had already gotten the custodian out.

The elevator has been put of service until a repair company can fix it, said Capt. David Seeger, who responded to the scene. The doors wouldn’t open on the second floor for a brief period of time, Seeger said.

Seeger said the malfunction had nothing to do with the power outage from 1 a.m. that cut off electricity to Naugatuck High School. Power was reportedly restored around 6 a.m.

He said the department will come back to the high school to check on the elevator once it’s repaired.

“We want to make sure the elevator is working properly before anyone else is stuck in there,” he said.
