Early Dismissal For Naugatuck Schools Today, Jan. 21

With a winter storm bearing down on the region, Naugatuck Public Schools announced that the district will have an early dismissal today, Jan. 21.

Naugatuck High School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., City Hill Middle School will dismiss at noon, Hillside and Cross Street Intermediate Schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., and all elementary schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. (Andrew Avenue, Hop Brook, Maple Hill, Salem, and Western). There will be no SPARK after school program.

The storm is expected to bring between 4 inches and 8 inches of snow. The precipitation is forecast to start this afternoon and last until early Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will also be potentially dangerous as they dip to about 10 degrees, and below zero with the wind chill.

I am curuous: why bother opening at all? Whether its a cancellation or an early dismissal, its a huge PITA for parents.

I think if they get four hours in it counts as a full day. My concern is for everyone who will be out getting their kids or busses trying to get up some of the hills before the plows have had much of a chance to sand.
