First Day of School in Naugatuck Pushed Back to Thursday

More time needed to restore power to four borough schools, superintendent said.

School hasn’t even started yet, and already the borough is being forced to use a snow day.

Superintendent John Tindall-Gibson said the first day of school for Naugatuck students was pushed back from Wednesday to Thursday. Also, the first day for faculty and staff, as well as kindergarten orientation, has been pushed back to Wednesday, Tindall-Gibson said.

Four borough schools are still without power in Naugatuck and 40 percent of borough customers still have no electricity, according to CL&P.

The superintendent said the extra day was to allow more time for CL&P to restore power in Naugatuck schools.

“Although exactly how long it will take is unknown,” he said.

The first day of school for students at St. Francis-St. Hedwig School has also been pushed back to Thursday, said Principal John Salatto. The Catholic school runs on the same bus schedule as the public schools.

Salatto also said there will be no kindergarten or pre-K orientation at St. Francis-St. Hedwig until further notice.
