Naugatuck Track Star Breaks UCONN Record

Amanze Williams, who graduated NHS in 2011, recently broke the record for farthest long jump during an invitational earlier this month.

All-Area track star Amanze Williams broke the record for farthest long jump during a recent Winter Invitational indoor track meet at the University of Connecticut.

Williams, a UConn freshman, jumped 7.61 meters, or 24 ft. 11.75 inches, during the Jan. 7 indoor meet. The university’s track and field team posted a video on YouTube of Williams making the jump. The previous record was 7.53 meters, according to UConnHuskies.com.

The website ct.milesplit.com has a list of Williams’ results in long jump, triple jump, sprinting and other events.

Williams, 19, graduated in and his athletic prowess has garnered much notice here on Naugatuck Patch. He won an MVP award last January during an indoor track meet, and was featured twice as our Athlete in the Spotlight:
