NHS Cheerleaders to Hold Competition Saturday

Funds from the local competition at Naugatuck High School on Feb. 18 will go toward offsetting costs for NHS cheerleaders' trip to nationals in South Carolina.

The Naugatuck High School cheerleading team is holding a competition on Saturday to raise funds for a trip to nationals in March.

The NHS team qualified for the National Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on March 10, said Coach Jennifer Miller. The team was accepted after submitting a recording of one of its routines to the competition judges.

To raise money for the cost of the trip, Miller said the team will be holding its 2nd Annual Greyhound Showdown Cheer & Dance Competition at Naugatuck High School on Saturday, Feb. 18. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 11 a.m.

Roughly 14 teams plan on attending the event, coming from all over the state, as well as from New York and Pennsylvania, Miller said. This includes both varsity and junior varsity teams. Naugatuck will also be performing too, she said.

“We would like to invite family, friends and people from the community to come out to see an exciting day of cheerleading and athleticism,” Miller said.
