School Officials to Talk Hurricane Impact During Conference Call Today

If the storm knocks out power for the region on Monday, it could affect the first day teachers come back to school.

Naugatuck school officials are holding a conference call Saturday at 1 p.m. to discuss whether to postpone any events next week due to Hurricane Irene.

Superintendent John Tindall-Gibson said he would contact Naugatuck Patch with details from the call after it takes place. The hurricane is expected bring high winds and flooding, and is also expected to take down power lines and trees. This could likely impact power in the region, as CL&P is reportedly predicting power outages for up to a week.

So if power goes out in the borough, and it affects the schools, then it’s possible the school district might have to postpone certain events starting Monday. One of the bigger events is a schoolteacher conference with the Board of Education Monday morning, which marks the first day of work for Naugatuck teachers.

If power remains out this week, it could also impact the first day of school on Wednesday. Several school districts in Connecticut that were scheduled to start classes on Monday have already begun pushing the start date back.

Depending on how bad the storm aftermath is, Naugatuck could go the same route, however this remains unconfirmed. More details will likely become available following the storm.
