Social Worker Appointed Assistant Middle School Principal

The Naugatuck Board of Education has appointed a longtime school social worker to serve as assistant principal at City Hill Middle School.

The board unanimously chose Lisa LaChance Thursday from an internal applicant pool of candidates.

"Our process was exhaustive; we had several rounds of interviews, a writing sample, and she met with a group of teachers, parents, staff, students," Principal Brian Hendrickson said. "She exemplified all of the qualities of a leader that are in alignment with the common core standards in Connecticut."

He said LaChance will be an excellent fit at City Hill, the borough's only grades 7-8 school.

LaChance has been in Naugatuck for six years and currently works with children with behavioral problems at Naugatuck High School. Prior to serving in Naugatuck, she worked in Waterbury Public Schools for five years - four years at Wallace Middle School and a year at the alternative high school.

"I’m excited that I can still work with the kids; the assistant principal has a lot of contact with students," she said. "I think my social work experience will really help me in that role. ...I've learned from some really good people, and I'm very excited."
