Student Leaders Clean Naugatuck River

Naugatuck High School ROTC cadets pulled trash and debris from the riverbanks.

A group of Naugatuck High School student leaders cleaned the east riverbank of the Naugatuck River and Greenway in Linden Park recently.

The Air Force Junior ROTC cadets pulled out more than a dozen large bags of light debris, a shopping cart and tires, a metal barrel, a rug, several lengths of pipe and rusted metal from the river.

Master Sgt. Gary Morrone, U.S. Air Force retired, and Lt. Col. Valerie Lofland, U.S. Air Force retired, led the cadets in the effort to improve the quality of life in the Naugatuck River Valley. This is the eighth time the group has completed conservation projects along the Naugatuck River.
