Students Mourn the Loss of 8th Grade Classmate

City Hill Middle School student died from health condition Wednesday while at home, said school officials.

Grief counselors were made available at City Hill Middle School Thursday after students were informed that one of their 8th grade peers died from a medical condition while at home.

Board of Education Chairman David Heller confirmed that the student had died Wednesday evening. Heller also said that attempts were made to revive the boy, however they were unsuccessful.

“We are deeply saddened by this news,” Heller said. “Our prayers go out to the student’s parents and family.”

School officials have yet to release details on the boy’s identity. Superintendent John Tindall-Gibson said City Hill officials have been in touch with parents regarding the incident.

Heller said both 7th and 8th grade classes were notified of the death during assemblies Thursday morning. He said the school brought in grief counselors to assist both students and faculty that needed their services. Counselors are expected to be available Friday.
