Track Indoor State Open Championship This Week

Here is the rundown of sports coming this week for Naugatuck students.

NAUGATUCK BOYS BASKETBALL

Away – Monday 7 p.m. Seymour

Away – Thursday 7 p.m. Wilby

Home – Friday 7 p.m. Torrington

The Naugatuck boys saw a tough one slip through its fingers in a 60-58 loss to Kennedy. Brian Overton grabbed a rebound on a missed free throw and converted the put-back with 20 seconds left for the game winning bucket for the Kennedy Eagles.

Brandon Kuczenski led the Greyhounds with 19 points with Mick Pernell adding 16 points and Tyler Conklin knocking down 11 points.

The Greyhounds didn’t miss out on the opportunity on Friday when they defeated Wolcott by a 52-48 margin for its second win of the season. Kuczenski once again led the Hounds with 16 points, Pernell added 10 points with Matt Zahornasky chipping in with eight points and Nolan Kinne adding seven points.

Naugatuck will be tested this week as they take on three NVL foes as they look to improve on a 2-13 record.

NAUGATUCK GIRLS BASKETBALL

Home – Monday 7 p.m. Seymour (senior night)

The Naugatuck girls continue to struggle trying to put points on the board as they were upended three times last week falling to 3-16 on the season. The Lady Greyhounds fell to Wilby by a slim 42-39 margin on Monday.

Naugatuck had 32 turnovers in a 49-23 loss to Kennedy as Lauren Piroscafo led the team in scoring with 9 points and Stephanie Lima added 4 points.

The Greyhounds didn’t get it going against Wolcott on Friday as they came up on the short end of a 46-31 final. Piroscafo led the team with 9 points and Lima chipped in with 7 points.

In the final game of the season this Monday Naugatuck will hold its senior night festivities honoring seniors Renee Augustine and Michele Troschler who will play in the final high school game of their career.

NAUGATUCK SWIM

Home – Tuesday 4:15 p.m. Conard

Away – Friday 7 p.m. Watertown

The Hounds got back to their winning ways as they made quick work of Torrington in a 91-74 victory. Chris Bronko raced to victory in the 200 freestyle, James Vaz won the 100 freestyle with William Wright swimming to victory in the 100 backstroke and Kyle Conrad winning the 50 freestyle.

NAUGATUCK INDOOR TRACK

Away – Saturday 12 noon at the New Haven Athletic Center - State Open

The Naugatuck boys finished second in the NVL meet and third in the Class L. The Naugatuck girls finished third in the NVL and had a good showing in the Class L meet. Amanze Williams was a double winner for the Hounds as the league champion in the high jump and setting a new NVL record as the long jump champion. Jamaal Gee was also a double winner racing to victory as the league champion in the 55 meter dash and the 300 meters. Muad Hrezi was the league champion in the 1000 meters.

Shannon Hale paced the Lady Greyhounds with second place finished at the NVL meet in the 300 and 600 meters. Jordyn Allen took two second place finishes in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
