$10,000 Raised in Effort to Break Record for Longest Kickball Game

The game will be held in Naugatuck on March 30, and will run for 60 hours, organizer said.

It’s over a month away, and already the potentially record-breaking kickball game that will be played in Naugatuck has reached half of its donation goal.

Naugatuck native Sean Cummings, the game’s organizer, said on Friday that he has received $10,000 total in donations toward the World Adult Kickball Association’s upcoming charity game on March 30.

The goal was to hit $20,000 by the date of the game, with all of the money going to a child cancer charity.

“It’s a big milestone,” Cummings said, noting that the $10,000 was made up entirely of small donations from friends and residents.

Cummings, a borough native, has been assembling two teams to compete in a 60-hour kickball game. The goal is to break the previous world record of 51-hours straight, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The teams, named in honor of two young cancer survivors, are allowed to rotate their players in and out, and they are allowed to sleep and eat, however they must remain at the Linden Park — the game’s location — during the entire duration of the three days.

Also, Cumming said he has completely filled up the two teams, and has even enlisted a few members of the Naugatuck Fire Department: firefighter Lenny Patterson and Deputy Fire Chief Ellen Murray, who will also be playing with her daughter.
