Naugatuck Player Finishes College Career on High Note

Anthony Mariano scored 12.6 points per game as a senior at Keene State.

Keene State College placed a combined six players of the New Hampshire Division III Coaches Association All-State men’s and women’s basketball teams. In addition, senior Ryan Martin (Wayne, Maine) and Rob Colbert were named men’s player and coach of the year respectively. 

Martin, who was a first-team selection, led the Little East Conference in scoring (15.6 ppg.) and three-point field goal pct. (.483) and was also among the conference leaders in free throw pct. (.873).

Under the direction of Colbert, Keene State finished the season with a 17-11 record, reaching the finals of the LEC tournament.

Seniors Anthony Mariano (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Rashad Wright (Agawam, Mass.) joined Martin on the first team, while senior Eric Fazio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was named to the second team.

Mariano finished second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg.) and led the LEC in free throw pct. (88-113, .876).  Wright, who averaged 10.7 ppg., finished second in the conference in rebounding (8.4 rpg.) and field goal pct. (.551). Fazio was third on the team in scoring (11.3 ppg.) and rebounding (4.6 rpg.) and was among the conference leaders in field goal pct. (.495) and free throw pct. (.788). 

Senior Siobhan Carnell (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Christan Wojtas (Amherst, N.H.) were named to the women’s basketball first and second-team respectively. Carnell led the Owls in scoring (16.3 ppg.) and rebounding (6.6 rpg.). Wojats was second on the team in scoring (11.0 ppg.).

The New Hampshire Division III Coaches Association is comprised of coaches from Keene State, Plymouth State University, Colby-Sawyer College, New England College, Daniel Webster College and Rivier College.
