DERBY - For a moment Friday night, it appeared as if the Naugatuck High School football team could come back from a 14-point deficit to tie the Derby Red Raiders with three minutes left on the clock.
But it proved to be a fleeting moment as the Greyhounds failed to convert on an extra point, keeping the score at 21-20, which is where the score stayed.
The Greyhounds were led by Mick Pernell, who ran for 122 yards on 29 carries. He also scored on the first play of the game, returning a kickoff return 86 yards for a touchdown.
Naugy moves to 1-1 on the season.
