Naugy Football Trounces Crosby

Bruno locks up first win as Naugy coach.

Naugatuck's Bryan Burke returned the opening kickoff for a 70-yard touchdown, and the Naugatuck Greyhounds just kept pouring on the offense until the score at the end of the game read Naugatuck 39, Crosby 8 Friday night at Crosby in Waterbury.

The Greyhounds threw a flea flicker on their first play from scrimmage as Quarterback Jason Bradley lined up at split end, ran behind the line of scrimmage and took the toss pass. He then heaved the ball downfield to a streaking Bryan Coney Jr., who was tackled at the 1-yard-line. Bradley took a quarterback sneak into the end-zone to put Naugy up 14-0.

"We exploded right out of the gate," said Head Coach Craig Bruno, who secured his first victory as a Greyhound.

Ryne Griesenauer caught a 70-yard Bradley pass for the third touchdown, and Bradley threw a 20-yard TD pass to Coney for the fourth.

Jordan Hopkins ran the ball in from the two-yard line for the fifth Greyhound score, and Griesenauer scored Naugy's final TD on a four-yard pass from Bradley.

P.J. Murphy, Jack Rierden and Griesenauer all played well defensively, Bruno said.

"We were flying high," he said. "It was a great first half. We know we have a long way to go, but it's always nice to come out strong."

The Greyhounds, 1-0, will play Wolcott at home on their new turf field Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.

Note: The Rep-Am had Bradley's passing stats as 8-for-13 for 245 yards and three TDs. He also ran one in.
