Naugy Girls U13 Soccer Team Wins Tournament in Dramatic Fashion

Naugy United wins after six-player shoot out.

Over the Columbus Day weekend, the ‘Naugy United’ U13 soccer team went undefeated and took the championship in an exciting six-player shoot out.

Although the team only had four starters from last year, the whole team stepped up and played their hearts out in the final game for the tournament to take the crown.

The girls were the top seeded team going into the playoffs, but lost a few players before the finals against New Milford. After going down 1-0 in the first half, the defense closed the door and didn’t allow any second chances.

The mid-fielders were tired but pushed the ball up to the forwards and allowed several good chances. They were able to tie the game before the whistle blew.

Each coach selected five players to take penalty kicks. After five shots, they went to one more player. New Milford missed and Naugy United finished off the day with a hard shot to the back of the net.

Coach Dave Rotatori said: “They deserved it. This team has practiced hard all season and with special guidance from trainer and U14 Coach John Teixiera, has really improved."

Congratulations girls!
