I hear you re Millville Ave. Daughter and family moving on Sat. off Millville and it has been aRead More disaster accesing her new street. As far as potholes go in Naug. Prospect is no bonus as is Wtby. etc. This has been a horrible yr. for the roads. Oh yeah- worst IMHO is Maple Hill and all roads leading that way to Walmart
Robert Middlebrook May 14, 2013 at 12:44 am
At least it makes it hard for the cops to give speeding tickets. You probably need a jeep to beRead More able to speed through town. I hardly notice when I cross into Naugatuck from where I live in Waterbury. The roads used to be noticeably nicer. Maybe they should have a street fundraiser in Naugatuck. People hate higher taxes but I bet they would scarf barbecue, pies, etc. to raise money to be able to drive down the street. This will also increase funds because then people could actually speed in PotHoletuck again, and get a ticket for speeding. People would also appreciate the fundraiser concept for roads because they know it will go to roads and not be permanently added to the budget and sent to the board of education. But seriously, your going to take 50 years to repave all the roads.
ErinG May 14, 2013 at 12:24 am
I sure hope they do a better job repaving. All streets near and including Millville are a wreck. SoRead More glad I pay such high taxes!
Fr May 5, 2013 at 04:26 pm
Jon, True. Steve and the Mayor's actions say a lot about their wanting Naugatuck to have the bestRead More image possible. And the biz owner should be able to use his brain to come up with a very effective billboard touting what experience he has and how many happy customers he has, etc. to get more business. Both sides are happy then.
Blue Eyed Girl May 5, 2013 at 12:54 pm
I agree Mr Mike...take a pic and send it to Jay Leno and lighten up!
Jonathan Morris May 5, 2013 at 01:03 am
I'm sitting here reading all this controversy about the "Get Layed" sign. I've been aRead More resident in Naugatuck for 65 years +, and I have personally done business with Mr. Macary on several occasions and have never had an issue with him. I believe that Mr. Macary was completely in the right for calling up CBS news asking them to address the issue. He cares very much for his town.

I will work to make my family, church, friends, community and the family business I represent proud!Read More Thank you for your well wishes. Happy Easter!
Fran Dambowsky March 29, 2013 at 03:19 pm
Congratulations Chris. I am confident that you will do a great job. You have always been a personRead More that exemplifies the word "honorable." Keep fighting that fight! God knows you have fought many battles in the past. Once again, congrats, and thanks for all that you have done for our community.
Sherri March 29, 2013 at 01:49 pm
Congrats Chris!!! Proud of you!

Well deserved.... What a lucky organization!!

So strange to see this place being used for reality show.. makes me wonder if my grandfather isRead More watching from up above. He was head chef there for over 30 years. Cooked dinner for many celebrities from Ed Sullivan to Marlynn Monroe. People flocked from miles around to eat his food. Wonder if he still checks in on the place from time to time. Lol
Maggie May 12, 2013 at 03:15 pm
They still serve fruit cup as part of a four course meal...I don't think removing that will cause itRead More to be a modern establishment. They do need to update their menu, whichis part of the transformation. By the way, the last time I remember having a fruit cup on a menu was over 30 years ago in elementary school! :)
Bruce May 3, 2013 at 09:09 pm
Kind of a shame. People go to the Curtis House for a trip back in time. No hard talking shyster willRead More transform it in a few days. Makes for cheap tv. If they want a modern makeover, they should just raze the place and start from scratch. A place where I have to duck down so I don't bang my head doesn't scream modern.
Mr Mike April 12, 2013 at 07:51 pm
To PTR, do not let the State Border hit you......on the way out!
Dan April 12, 2013 at 05:57 pm
What local taxes exactly will they be losing?
Robert Lee April 11, 2013 at 08:14 pm
Yeah it is a crying shame when the property taxes skyrocket and all the other crazy taxes in CT!
Marilyn Mezzio March 29, 2013 at 02:52 am
I agree..nicey put
SILENT WOLF March 29, 2013 at 01:23 am
Liberals will try to capitalize on the tragedy at New Town for their own political gain ..Of courseRead More we all feel the pain that those people felt , to cut it short we need to focus more on the mental health issue rather than ignoring it as if it wasn't the factor here .
SILENT WOLF March 29, 2013 at 01:15 am
OK,, Rodney,,,
Starla March 23, 2013 at 05:31 pm
A conversion to natural gas won't cost anywhere near that, not ever in a single family home. If aRead More licensed plumber told you that, he's trying to rob you blind. The gas industry would never find any converts with those prices. At most, $2,000-$3,000 to convert from oil to gas using the existing furnace.
Starla March 23, 2013 at 05:29 pm
You have either a huge home or something is very wrong with your heating system and your house. YouRead More need a home energy audit ASAP to find out why you costs are so high unless you keep your thermostat at 80 degrees.
Ajack March 20, 2013 at 10:58 am
Here we go again folks. A bunch of government people, in this case the out of touch DemocraticRead More 'Liberal' Elite of this state, sitting around on the asses up in Hartford , getting paid with our tax dollars, trying to figure how they can show that they can 'lead', which means in the case and many others, making life harder for us by raising taxes. Instead of investing in research on how to burn fossil fuels, heating oil, more efficiently, instead of giving us our tax dollars back so we can improve the energy efficiency of our homes, instead of investing in research to help bring on line a cheap alternative to oil, they chose to punish the vast majority of us for what they have allowed to become the way we heat our homes. Taxes are just a poor way to govern. FIND OUT WHO ON THE COMMERCE COMMITTEE IS PROPOSING THIS TAX AND CALL THEM......TODAY!!!!!Taxes like this hurt the poor and the unfortunate the most. How about a tax on every new tax bill that they come up with, paid for by them. More and more and more regulation and taxes. This isn't freedom folks. This isn't what we signed on for. This is becoming tyrannical governing style. Smart public officials would support researching how to make oil work better for the average person, to improve the efficiency of our heating systems. Guaranteed that this tax, if it goes through, will be used for other things not related to it's original intent down the line. This is the government ,again, trying to pick the winners and losers

I think it's pretty obvious who got all the artistic ability and acting skills in the family, butRead More I'm pretty proud of the fact that I can still take her in a game of one-on-one. Congrats Hailey!

Multi-talented. She comes from a great family. Her mother was one of the best teachers I've everRead More had. Congrats, Hailey.

I would be happy to have ALL telemarketing banned. The amount of time wasted on these calls isRead More outrages. Some businesses have their phone lines overwhelmed by them costing a loss in sales and productivity.
Mr Mike March 4, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Don't know where the AGs Office has been for the last 2-3 years that they are just now becomingRead More aware/notifying consumers about this. I have been hearing from these @#%@# for a long time and putting your phone #s on the Do Not Call Lists does no good. Oh, and long ago it was "Jen" who called.Law and Gov't need to get on these people.
Lynn F. March 4, 2013 at 10:23 pm
Good idea Anna, I will complain to Blumental, DeLauro and the FTC also... I constantly get theseRead More annoying calls (while being listed on the National Do Not Call List) and I tell them, "I will think about it, what is your phone number and I will call you back" and they hang up!!!
Mike Etter May 13, 2013 at 04:42 pm
If someone thought the building and/or land was useful, they would have bought it by now. But no oneRead More has -- so what grand ideas does Naugy have for this property that a real-estate developer didn't see? Why don't we let prviate enterprise do its thing instead of wasting tax-payer dollars on long shots?
charles glick March 3, 2013 at 12:30 pm
did you know there is a brook flowing underneath this building into the naugatuck river? when iRead More worked for gdc everytime hop brook dam would open there flood gates they would call us. we had to manually operate the pumps from 1st. floor . the pumps would send the water down stream in 2- 24 inch pipes somewhere near the old chemical site. thouht you should know.
Bernadette Nata February 28, 2013 at 06:39 pm
I stand corrected FEMA grants only apply for toxic waste disposal sites and again, barrel spillsRead More onto ground. They consider the proximity to town, schools. Again, if doesnt hurt to ask questions regarding grants and protocols. You start with EPA Dept of Energy State of Ct and the Department environmental protection and apply for grants under the Brownsfield program grants. They dont assist then FEMA. Mr. Mike on this comment has the right to write his opinion, like many of us also have the right to express ours. GDC should put up the TAB for not advising the buyers of any barrels of toxic waste on the property, that is, if they exist. Review the contract of purchase and leasing.
Lynn F. February 25, 2013 at 09:57 pm
And can us CT taxpayers be advised where these monies will be allocated towards????
Bernadette Nata February 18, 2013 at 05:58 pm
Again, let me elaborate its not all YOUNG Floridians but i have heard from so many that do work inRead More these fast food places, that this is done.
Bernadette Nata February 18, 2013 at 05:56 pm
Sounds like a Floridian joke. They consider that, clowning around. They also consider throwingRead More snakes, rats into people's lanai, roofs, homes, funny. NOT FUNNY!! They laugh and laugh and laugh. Time to grow up! Degenerates. Times changed since people use to blame their stupidity on being high or drunk. You want to act like a jerk then do it a home. I heard of one young adult who bragged about urinating at a fast food store in the company's pickle jar. Funny? I believe there should be cameras at every angle in these fast food restaurants. He must of known where the hidden cameras were placed when he resorted to this kind of disgusting act. So, sad. Showing off to their buddies and friends to prove they are the coolest. Is this a way to prove that they are brave men and women, when they decide to break the rules. Is that the reason? Having a sense of humor is fine but not when it resorts to this level, not our food. Saliva does carry diseases from some people.
Mr Mike December 29, 2012 at 07:56 pm
OK, I'll be the bad guy. I think everyone ought to understand that the old, limited skill set, laborRead More intensive, production line type jobs are mostly gone and not coming back. Today, a worker needs skills in math, english, computers, computer controlled manufacturing, finance and many other jobs requireing more education/mental ability/education than most of the old production jobs. So, people need to get trained by Government Programs(Unemployment Benefits?) or on their own. I was out of work for two/three extended periods during the recessions of late "70s and early '90s. We got 13 weeks of unemployment usually; maybe 26 one time. I ended up commuting 120 miles each day to the job I finally got after 6 months of hard looking. I really feel 99 weeks of unemployment benefits may be a dis-incentive to accepting a less than "ideal" job.

I actually enjoyed the change of seasons, and find it strange when we do not have those changes.

as a snowboarder and winter lover, this pains me. but it is so evident that our climate is changingRead More and not for the better. although I'm loving my lower heating oil expenses!
