Dogs and cats that are picked up but not claimed within seven days become property of the borough.</p> <p>Payments for dog adoptions, and other fees, can be by check or cash. The department, on average, takes in more animals than are adopted.</p> <p>The department services an average of 300 calls a year.</p> <p>While cats who are sick, injured, or need to be quarantined are taken in at the shelter, the department does not regularly pick up cats who are stray and healthy.</p>
