There is also a bureau for juvenile matters.</p> <p>The department has had 14 chiefs since its inception over a century ago. The current chief is Chief Christopher J. Edson, who has served his post since 2007 and the deputy chief is Thomas Hunt. The records bureau provides information on past incidents.</p>

A division of the Naugatuck Police Department, the Department of the Dog Warden is located at the Naugatuck Pound.More The department enforces animal control laws, taking care of stray dogs and cats, animal-related issues, and other basic needs. There are 17 runs, or enclosed areas, where dogs are placed inside the pound.</p> <p>The department also takes in animals and will offer them for adoption via a PetFinder.com website. Dogs and cats that are picked up but not claimed within seven days become property of the borough.</p> <p>Payments for dog adoptions, and other fees, can be by check or cash. The department, on average, takes in more animals than are adopted.</p> <p>The department services an average of 300 calls a year.</p> <p>While cats who are sick, injured, or need to be quarantined are taken in at the shelter, the department does not regularly pick up cats who are stray and healthy.</p>

Edson who has served his post since 2007 and the deputy chief is Thomas Hunt.</p> <p>There are also 14 full-time and six-part-time civilian employees at the Naugatuck Police Department, serving in areas including records, dispatch, maintenance and animal control.</p>

Located on the southeast corner of the third floor of Town Hall, the Engineering Department shares an office with theMore Water Pollution Control Department, both function in similar capacities. The Engineering Department consists of the borough engineer, Wayne Zirolli, as well as a chief engineer, survey party chief, construction inspector and geographical information systems technician. The  department assigns permits for new buildings and deals drainage and road issues. Inspection is part of the department's regular work for storm and sanitary sewers and town roads. As such, the department works with Naugatuck's wastewater treatment plant. The department also reviews applications to the town's planning, wetland, zoning, police and economic development commissions. If a town resident drafts up an engineering plan for a piece of property, the department reviews it to make sure it meets regulations.
