Located on the southeast corner of the third floor of Town Hall, the Engineering Department shares an office with the…More Water Pollution Control Department, both function in similar capacities. The Engineering Department consists of the borough engineer, Wayne Zirolli, as well as a chief engineer, survey party chief, construction inspector and geographical information systems technician. The department assigns permits for new buildings and deals drainage and road issues. Inspection is part of the department's regular work for storm and sanitary sewers and town roads. As such, the department works with Naugatuck's wastewater treatment plant. The department also reviews applications to the town's planning, wetland, zoning, police and economic development commissions. If a town resident drafts up an engineering plan for a piece of property, the department reviews it to make sure it meets regulations.
