ABOUT THE ARTIST: Ms. Tabú

Born in Connecticut, Ms. Tabú™ (Tabitha Marie) is a well-rounded writer of over a decade with her first poem being written at the young age of ten. She then discovered a new gift for rhythm & lyricism at the age of thirteen and has been songwriting ever since. Not to mention, her theatrical roots stemming from early childhood that have grown around her wordplay and enveloped her artistic demeanor on stage. For the audience, witnessing the real life inspired acts of Ms. Tabú™ can be like watching a clip from a dramatically enchanting play. In her writings, she focuses on interracial issues with pieces such as "I'm Not Worth Your Stereotypes", as she passionately promotes diversity through her nicely seasoned delivery of words.

Both in and out of her artistry, Ms. Tabú™ is a humanitarian who advocates for social justice and equal rights. In August, 2011 she started a non-profit organization and movement called 'R.I.N.O.K™' which stands for RAPE IS NOT OK. A survivor herself, she has been working hard to raise awareness on the issue and has partnered up with a fellow Authoress's (Taquila Thompson) movement, 'Stopping The Silence' to collaborate on relevant projects together. Currently, they are in compilation stages of gathering material from different survivors and fighters to publish an anthology that they believe will make a positive change for many people universally. Ms. Tabú™ has transparently exposed her traumatic experiences in her writings, in emotionally saturated pieces such as "It Was You" and "Rapist Until Proven Innocent", which may be a hard pill to swallow for the average reader. From her view point, it is through her honesty and courageousness that others can be reached.

Extremely versatile, she also writes of many other subjects such as ones pertaining to love, spirituality, and family; she takes you into her world to share her heart with you. Her work echoes of a soul being delivered from personal struggles, as she heals through each page of her life. She is both hip-hop and soulful with a touch of a woman's manifesto and a "Free Verse" style that lets her navigate from poetry to lyricism, making her a phenomenal performer. A student at Post University majoring in Business Management with aspirations of soon pursuing her Masters in Public Health, Ms. Tabú™ intends to utilize her college degrees through these "callings". Her musical inspiration stems anywhere from Lauryn Hill, Common, Nas, & Tupac to the likes of Jill Scott, Amel Larrieux, Alicia Keys, and The Roots Crew.

Ms. Tabú™ has featured at several events and venues, mainly between Connecticut and NYC however she is looking to expand her horizon and begin to travel around the world to share her artistry on a global level!!! On September 23rd 2010, Ms Tabu successfully presented the grand debut of her own show, "MIC2SOUL" which has so far completed one full season of monthly events. Recently, Ms. Tabú™ was honorably granted the opportunity to have some of her poetry published in an arts magazine called 'Poetry & Prose Magazine'. A young lady of many goals, Ms. Tabú™ is currently in the process of publishing her first of poetry books, a personal autobiography in poetry form, which will be released in the near future. She also has plans to work on several Spoken Word albums, with the first one being based on the material in her book.

Ms. Tabú™ is ecstatic about the fact that she is finally following one of her lifelong dreams to learn how to studio produce her own music and spoken word independently. Also, she has begun her own Poetry Workshop called "The Mic2Soul Poetry Workshop" which branches off of her original Mic2Soul series of Spoken Word events. She also is on the verge of launching a brand new Open Mic called "Sunshine & Poetry" to provide an outlet for workshop members and other friends to meet and share positive and poetic words. And to top everything off, Ms. Tabú has now adjoined as a team with the host (C.Ivan Osborn) of "The Soul Experience" and has merged her original Mic2Soul show and series of events with his. Together, they will be on a soulful escapade as they travel to various venues with their singers and live jazzy-soulful band. Ms. Tabú is still available to perform solo acts, but is also being booked to feature full "sets" with the band, as they are all in the rehearsal process in preparation for upcoming gigs. It would be easy for someone to assume that a person so artistically equipped would lack humility, but the truth is that at the end of the day, Ms. Tabú™ humbly perceives herself as a vessel with a purpose to deliver messages through her craft. She is on a God-given mission not only to give voice to the voiceless, but to instill healing and growth in people through relating experiences.

"I AM...
