Special Performance of 'Into the Woods' for Veterans at the Palace Theater

WAMS students will present a free performance for veterans that will take place on Veterans Day.

Nina A. Smith, a theatre arts teacher at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School (WAMS,) was also the 2013-2014 City of Waterbury Teacher of the Year.  This beloved teacher has announced that she is currently working with the school's local veteran’s chapter, local VFW chapters, the State of CT Veterans Affairs department, the American Legion, and the VA Centers on a very special way to say to veterans "Thank you for your service."

Ms. Smith's hope is to fill the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT with 2600 United States Veterans.  She writes that she is very committed to teaching WAMS students that  "their education is freedom and their talents are freedom, but without those who protect our freedom, we may never have our right to express or voice them."

The company of their upcoming production of INTO THE WOODS (which includes students, teachers, parents, administration, and community members from the Waterbury, CT area) is committed to giving back in the best way they can in order to show their appreciation.

The Senior Showcase Students, as well as the WAMS theatre department, are offering a special free Veterans Day performance of Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS.  The senior class members have decided that they would like to have a benefit performance for all our men and women (and their families) that serve and have served us proudly.  "We know it is a small act, but one that can be accomplished with support," writes Ms. Smith.

The WAMS students are not in school on this day but they have chosen to share their talents and give back to the community by having a special free performance on Monday, Nov. 11th at 2pm. The Palace Theater is located at 100 East Main Street in Waterbury. Free Parking is available at the Scovill Street parking garage, located at 33 Scovill Street in Waterbury.
