I would like to thank my dad, who was with the landing forces in the Pacific in WWII. Although heRead More passed over a year ago, I think of him often and of what his, the Greatest Generation, did to keep us free. When I was young I didn't even know my dad had a purple heart! The sacrifices these men and women made for us were offered freely and without complaint. Locally, I would like to extend my thanks to a newer veteran friend "Doc" Swanson. I see Peter often in Madison at the Post Office and the grocer volunteering his time to help us remember our vets and to do what is right by them. His selfless dedication to our vets is honorable. So, Doc, thank you for all that you and your generation did so that my children and I can live free and enjoy our lives. Your sacrifices are not not overlooked or forgotten. My children know and will remember, too. I sincerely hope everyone, including our kids, reach out and thank a veteran this weekend. And, during the rest of the year, when you see a vet, don't be afraid to extend a hand and offer thanks! It is a small gesture that means a lot.
